Somalia highlighted the success of these operations, noting that the Federal Government of Somalia and the American military worked together to inflict significant Al-Shabaab casualties.
SOMALIA - On February 25th, 2025, a series of coordinated military actions took place in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle and Hirshabelle regions, targeting Al-Shabaab militants. The Somalian National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA) reported a heavy explosion in Middle Shabelle, which killed one individual involved in an attack on a mosque, signaling ongoing clashes in the area.
Concurrently, the Somali National Army, in collaboration with the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), executed a bombing operation aimed at disrupting terrorist activities. This joint effort specifically targeted Al-Shabaab operatives in the Alkowsar area of Middle Shabelle, within the Hirshabelle region, as part of a broader campaign against the extremist group.
The Somali Ministry of Information highlighted the success of these operations, noting that the Federal Government of Somalia and the American military worked together to inflict significant casualties on Al-Shabaab.
The bombings focused on dismantling the militia and their leadership, referred to as "Khawaarij" (a term often used to denote extremists in the region), who were engaged in combat with national forces.
While the full extent of enemy losses is still being assessed, the government has promised to keep the public informed with further updates. These actions underscore a determined effort to weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence in central Somalia, where they have long posed a threat to stability.
This joint operation reflects the strengthening partnership between Somalia’s government and international allies, particularly the United States through AFRICOM.
The Federal Government emphasized its resolve to eliminate Al-Shabaab, stating that they are enemies not only of the Somali people but of global security. The collaboration aims to bolster the national forces’ capacity to counter the insurgency, with the bombings marking a significant escalation in the fight against the group.
As the situation develops, the ongoing evaluation of the operation’s impact will likely shape future efforts to secure the region and protect civilian populations from further attacks.
