US Senators Request Immediate Briefing Regarding Recent Drone "Incursions" In The US, Kirby: No Evidence They Are A National Security Threat, Map Of Sightings Released By Local Sheriff's Office
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s office has called on the governor to declare a state of emergency “amid mysterious drone sightings & ban recreational drone use at night”.
NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY - U.S. Senators Kirsten Gilibrand, Charles E. Schumer, Cory Booker, and Andy Kim have written a letter requesting an immediate briefing from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding the recent unmanned aerial system (UAS) drone activity across New York and New Jersey, including any authorities, tools, or staff the agencies might require to address the ongoing "incursions".
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby addressed the drone activity in and around New Jersey: by saying, "We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat or have a foreign nexus... We have not been able to...corroborate any of the reported visual sightings."
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s office has released multiple maps showing recent drone sightings and has called on the federal government for stronger regulations, and to ID the source.
“Sheriff Golden is speaking out on drone sightings & emphasizing the urgent need to id the source. He is calling on fed govt for stronger regulations. While the source is unknown, if it is commercial they are violating restricted air space & not allowed to fly [with] navigation lights off,” a statement said.
He has also called on the governor to declare a state of emergency “amid mysterious drone sightings & ban recreational drone use at night”.
