US P8-A Transits Taiwan Strait. Chinese Forces Spotted Around The Island This Week
U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and Taiwan's Defense Ministry reported the transit, which it says stayed in international airspace on April 17th (local time).
TAIPEI - A U.S. P8-A crossed the Taiwan Strait traveling north to south, according to a report by Taiwan's Ministry of Defense today, which reported there was "no anomaly" detected in the area at the time of transit.
U.S. Indo-Pacific Command also reported the transit, which it says stayed in international airspace on April 17th (local time).
It added, "By operating within the Taiwan Strait in accordance with international law, the United States upholds the navigational rights and freedoms of all nations.
The aircraft's transit of the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The United States military flies, sails and operates anywhere international law allows."
