U.S. Intensifies Operations Against Houthis Amid Threats to Red Sea Navigation, Israeli Air Force On Heightened Alert
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: We will sustain these strikes until the Houthis cease their attacks on international shipping and U.S. assets in the region.
YEMEN - Amid ongoing U.S. military operations against the Houthi group, formally known as Ansar Allah, the group has announced its intent to prohibit all U.S.-affiliated vessels from navigating the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden.
On March 16–17, 2025, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi stated that the group plans to target U.S. Navy warships, including an alleged attack on the USS Harry S. Truman using 18 missiles and drones. This statement follows U.S. airstrikes that commenced on March 15, 2025, which the Houthi-run health ministry reported resulted in at least 53 deaths.
