Houthi missile likely targeting the US-flagged, owned, and operated MV Yorktown with 18 American, and 4 Greek crew members aboard.
YEMEN/DJBOUTI - After the United Kingdom Trade Operations (UKMTO) released a report of an explosion near a vessel 72 nautical miles east, southeast off the port of Djbouti, U.S. Central Command released a statement reporting that a coalition vessel had "successfully" engaged an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) that was launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis from Yemen over the Gulf of Aden.
The statement by U.S. Central Command went on to say that the missile was likely targeting the US-flagged, owned, and operated MV Yorktown with 18 American, and 4 Greek crew members aboard.
In addition to that incident, Central Command reported that it had "successfully" engaged and destroyed 4 drones over Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
While it is not known if the two events were related to one another, in both incidents the vessel and crew were reported safe.
