U.S. Central Command Hosts IDF Chief, Conducts Bomber Missions, and Enhances Regional Security with Training, Patrols
The two leaders discussed critical Middle East issues, including Iran’s destabilizing influence on the region, the ceasefire in Gaza, the end of hostilities in Lebanon, and Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis
US/MIDDLE EAST- On February 19th, 2025, General Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), hosted Lt. General Herzi Halevi, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), at the CENTCOM Headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
The two leaders discussed critical Middle East issues, including Iran’s destabilizing influence on the region, the ceasefire in Gaza, the end of hostilities in Lebanon, and Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis.
They also highlighted the strong, ongoing defense partnership between the U.S. and Israel. General Kurilla praised Lt. General Halevi for his leadership, partnership, and efforts to reinforce the robust military ties between the two nations.
Meanwhile, on February 20, CENTCOM executed its second Bomber Task Force Mission in the Middle East within 48 hours, showcasing its ability to project force and collaborate with regional partners.
Two B-52 bombers, based out of RAF Fairford, U.K., flew over Europe and six CENTCOM partner countries, conducting aerial refueling and training at ranges, with one partner nation providing fighter escorts.
Additionally, U.S. Army soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division, part of Task Force Courage, conducted mortar live-fire and reconnaissance training during the Jade Chameleon 25.1 exercise in the CENTCOM region.
This exercise, alongside Jordanian forces, aimed to boost military readiness and counter regional security threats. A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle also patrolled the CENTCOM area, further demonstrating U.S. military presence.
