U.S. Air Force Conducts Operational Test Launch of Unarmed Minuteman III ICBM to Validate Nuclear Force Readiness and Deterrence Capabilities

VANDENBERG - The Air Force Global Strike Command announced an operational test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The test was to be carried out overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The launch was scheduled to take place between 11:01 p.m. on February 18th to 5:01 a.m. on February 19th Pacific Time.
According to the U.S. Air Force, the launch is a routine test, planned years in advance, and designed to demonstrate the readiness and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear forces.
By validating the lethality and accuracy of the Minuteman III system, the test aims to provide confidence in the nation's nuclear deterrent capabilities.
The United States has adhered to standard procedures by notifying the Russian government in advance and transmitting a pre-launch notification in compliance with the Hague Code of Conduct.
