UPDATES: UKMTO Reports Incidents Around Bab El Mandeb Near Yemen
YEMEN/BAB EL MANDEB - The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an incident around the Bab El Mandeb in the Middle East where an entity declaring itself to be the Yemeni Navy ordered a vessel to change its course to Yemen. The UKMTO has advised caution and to report any suspicious activity in the region, and says that authorities are investigating the incident.
On December 15th there was an incident 60 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. UKMTO stated that authorities are investigating the incident. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
On December 14th there were distress calls regarding a vessel being boarded by “unknown persons” in the vicinity of 1203N 06120E, (700 nautical miles east of Bossaso, Somalia.
