Syria Carries Out Joint Airstrikes With Russia In Idlib, Shoots Down Drones In Masya. Iran, Iraq Pledge Support
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian while on the phone with the Iraqi President called on Islamic countries to aid the Syrian military in defeating those involved in the surprise insurgency.
SYRIA - The Syrian military has reported it carried out joint airstrikes with Russia in Idlib on a "convoy of terrorist organizations" and also shot down a drone in the airspace of Masya belonging to "terrorist organizations", according to Syrian state news agency SANA.
It also reported that "dozens of terrorists" were killed and wounded outside of Al-Safira in the eastern countryside of Aleppo due to air strikes carried out by the Syrian and Russian Air Force.
SANA, citing the country's military said, "This evening, the joint Syrian-Russian warplanes targeted a convoy of terrorist organizations consisting of dozens of vehicles and vehicles loaded with ammunition, equipment, and terrorist elements in the eastern countryside of Idlib, which led to its complete destruction."
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and said that Syria continues to fight terrorist organizations with all its force and determination throughout its territory, and that confronting and dismantling terrorist infrastructure does not only serve Syria but also the stability of the whole region.
A report by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that rebel forces within Syria had taken control of the majority of Aleppo, the second largest city in the country.
Saturday was the first time Russia has launched airstrikes in Syria since 2016. The fighting, which started on Wednesday had claimed the lives of over 300 people as of Saturday, 20 of which are reported to have been civilians.
On Friday the Syrian government had reported it regained control of positions located in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces that had been taken by rebel forces after the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) led a surprise attack on the country.
