Super Typhoon Leon (Kong-rey) To Hit Taiwan After Passing Philippines, Chinese Military Aircraft, Naval Forces Spotted Around Island Today
Taiwan's Ministry of Defense: Because typhoon Kong-rey has strengthened into a super typhoon, [Taiwanese Armed Forces] have mobilized troops, vehicles, and equipment to respond any potential disaster.
PHILIPPINES/TAIPEI - Super typhoon Leon (Kong-rey) is set to hit Taiwan today after closely passing the Philippines. Taiwan's Armed Forces released a statement saying, "In response to Typhoon Kong-rey’s potential impact, the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting today, instructing [Taiwanese Armed Forces] to monitor typhoon developments in disaster-prone areas and carry out comprehensive response and prevention efforts".
Taiwan's Armed Forces added, "Because typhoon Kong-rey has strengthened into a super typhoon, [Taiwanese Armed Forces] have mobilized troops, vehicles, and equipment to respond any potential disaster threats".
Additionally, 10 Chinese military aircraft and 7 PLA Navy (PLAN) vessels were spotted operating around the island of Taiwan October 10th, 2024, with five of the aircraft crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entering into the island's southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said, "10 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 5 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly".
