South Korea Considers Sending Group Of Intel Operatives To Ukraine To Monitor North Korean Troops, North Says South Violated Territory With Drone, Permanently Closed Off Roads, Railways To South
Earlier this month, North Korea's military said that it has cut off roads and railways linking North Korea to South Korea after the South reported roads being blown up.
SEOUL - According to the South Korean government, the country is considering sending a team of intelligence personnel to monitor the activities of the North Korean soldiers currently being deployed to the region in support of Russia.
Current Battlefield Situation Map from the British Ministry of Defense:
"There is a possibility that personnel will be sent to Ukraine to monitor the tactics and combat capabilities of North Korean special forces dispatched in support of Russia," a government source told South Korean media.
The idea would be for personnel from intelligence units to be deployed to the region to monitor battlefield tactics being carried out by North Korean troops, or even to participate in the interrogations of captured North Koreans, the country's media stated.
It added that South Korea is also considering providing weaponry to Ukraine which would be a change from its current policy not to get involved in directly providing lethal aid to the country. However, the country has been giving non-lethal aid, such as logistics and humanitarian aid which would also continue, according to the report.
"While watching signs of North Korea-Russia military cooperation, the response measures will be taken in steps," the source stated and added, "Rather than lethal weapons, defensive weapons will be prioritized, and even if lethal aid is provided, a way to send them indirectly will be first considered."
