Russia: US Plans To Deploy Long-Range Missiles In Germany In 2026 May Trigger Uncontrollable Escalation
Moscow says the plans by the United States to deploy long-range missiles in Europe could trigger an "uncontrollable escalation" and a new missile arms race.
MOSCOW - After the White House released a joint statement with Germany ahead of the NATO Summit revealing plans for the US to deploy long-range missiles to Germany in 2026, Russia said the action could trigger an "uncontrollable escalation" and a new missile arms race.
The White House released a joint statement on July 10th, 2024 just before the NATO Summit that said the following:
"The United States will begin episodic deployments of the long-range fires capabilities of its Multi-Domain Task Force in Germany in 2026, as part of planning for enduring stationing of these capabilities in the future.
When fully developed, these conventional long-range fires units will include SM-6, Tomahawk, and developmental hypersonic weapons, which have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe.
Exercising these advanced capabilities will demonstrate the United States’ commitment to NATO and its contributions to European integrated deterrence."
