Russia Continues Push On Kharkiv In Northeastern Ukraine
Putin has appointed an economist as the country's new Defense Minister. Ukraine says it indicates Russia is building a war economy.
KYIV/MOSCOW - The Russian Ministry of Defense has released a statement claiming to have advanced deeper into Ukraine and claimed to have taken full control of the village of Bugrovatka in Kharkiv. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Kyiv to discuss the latest $61 billion aid package going to Ukraine.
“We know this is a challenging time, but we also know that in the near-term the assistance is now on the way,” Blinken stated, adding, “Some of it has already arrived, more of it will be arriving, and that’s going to make a real difference against the ongoing Russian aggression on the battlefield.”
U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement that Blinken would be discussing “discuss battlefield updates, the impact of new U.S. security and economic assistance, long-term security and other commitments, and ongoing work to bolster Ukraine’s economic recovery".
The White House said on Monday that it's doing everything possible to rush weapons out to Ukraine to help Kyiv against the Russian ground offensive in Kharkiv.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan spoke to reporters and said, "We're doing everything humanly possible, both ourselves and our allies," and added that another aid package will be announced, "just in the coming days".
