Rapidly Expanding Hughes Fire Forces Thousands to Evacuate in California
The Eaton and Palisades fires have killed at least 28 people and destroyed over 10,000 buildings.
CALIFORNIA - A new wildfire ignited 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles on Wednesday has expanded to 10,176 acres, with only 14% containment. The fire is impacting both Los Angeles and Ventura counties, leading to the mandatory evacuation of 31,000 people, while an additional 23,000 have been warned they might also need to evacuate.
Note: Even if a fire reaches 100% containment, this does not necessarily mean that it has been completely put out, but rather that firefighters have surrounded the blaze completely and stopped it from spreading further.
The Eaton and Palisades fires have killed at least 28 people and destroyed over 10,000 buildings. The two new fires that had erupted recently: Pala and Lilac have been contained.
The National Weather Service Los Angeles said, "This is a DANGEROUS fire day TODAY. Winds will continue to increase and expand this morning. Humidity is already extremely dry. This map shows the current fire weather conditions. Much of LA & Ventura Counties are at critical Red Flag levels. Any new fire can grow rapidly.”
