Private Jet Carrying Pediatric Patient Crashes In Northeastern Philadelphia, Homes And Cars Set On Fire
The crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. near the Roosevelt Mall after leaving the Philadelphia airport en route to the Missouri Springfield-Branson National Airport.
UNITED STATES - Developing: A private twin-engine Learjet has crashed in northeastern Philadelphia, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the agency that operated the aircraft.
The crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. near the Roosevelt Mall after leaving the Philadelphia airport en route to the Missouri Springfield-Branson National Airport.
The Learjet 55 medical ambulance plane had been transporting a pediatric patient. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance said that there were four crew members and two passengers on the aircraft when it crashed and the FAA later verified that there were six people in the plane.
The agency said in a statement, "Our immediate concern is for the patient's family, our personnel, their families and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground".
It added that no names of those on the aircraft will be released until the families have been notified of the incident.
According to fire officials, five homes and six cars on Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard were on fire after jet fuel dropped from the aircraft onto the homes, the fires have since been brought under control.
"At this time, we cannot confirm any survivors. No names are being released at this time until family members have been notified. Our immediate concern is for the patient's family, our personnel, their families, and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground,” Jet Rescue Air Ambulance said in a statement.
The cause of the crash is yet unknown.
