Merchant Vessel Issues Distress Call Due To Flooding Near Nishtun, Yemen
The flooding caused the crew to abandon the ship and were then assisted and recovered by another vessel.
YEMEN - A merchant vessel has issued a distress call 96 nautical miles southeast of Nishtun, Yemen after a vessel was reported to have suffered flooding that couldn't be contained.
The flooding caused the crew to abandon the ship and were then assisted and recovered by another vessel.
The abandoned vessel remains adrift near the last reported location and the authorities have been informed of what the UKMTO says is a SOLAS incident.
SOLAS stands for International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and was first instated after the Titanic incident in 1912.
