CALIFORNIA - A press release by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office says that on October 12th, 2024 deputies assigned to former President Donald Trump's rally in the Coachella Valley contacted the driver of a black SUV at a checkpoint at the intersection of Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller and a resident of Las Vegas, was found to be illegally in possession of a shotgun, loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine.
Miller was then taken into custody without incident, according to the report, and booked at the John J. Benoit Detention Center for possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine. According to the Sheriff the man, who claimed to be a journalist to gain entry, was booked and then released on $5,000 bail.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said the man showed up with fake license plates and multiple passports with different names. He added that he probably did have deputies that prevented a third assassination attempt on the former President.
Update: Miller, who is a registered Republican said he was a journalist and runs The America Happens Network claimed that he was not there to assassinate the former President, and said he purchased the weapons in 2022 after receiving death threats and was not aware that gun laws in California are different than in Nevada.
He also claimed to be a Trump caucus captain with a “special entry pass” into the rally that he said was issued by the Clark County Republican Party and announced to deputies when he reached the checkpoint that he was legally carrying weapons in the trunk of his vehicle.
