TOKYO - China has given Japan an explanation regarding one of its Y-9 reconnaissance aircraft that briefly violated Japanese airspace off the island of Kyushu on August 26th causing Japan to scramble fighter jets in response, saying that the violation was an accident as it resorted to emergency measures due to turbulence, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Chief Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said that China gave assurances to Japan that it would take measures to prevent another incident from occurring after Japan lodged a formal complaint regarding the matter.
“We take note of China’s explanation, and we will closely watch Chinese military activity from now on,” Hayashi stated.
Shortly after the incident, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had released a statement that said, “On August 26, a Chinese military plane intruded into Japan’s territorial airspace.
