RED SEA - Houthi anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) struck Panamanian-flagged and Greek-owned and operated oil tanker "Wind" which most recently docked in Russia and was bound for China.
The impact of the anti-ship ballistic missile caused flooding in the vessel which resulted in the loss of both propulsion and steering, according to U.S. Central Command.
There was also recently a report released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) that reported a vessel had been struck 76 nautical miles northwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen where it sustained "slight damage" after being struck by an "unknown object".
A statement released by CENTCOM said that a coalition vessel immediately responded to a distress call by the Motor Tanker Wind, but added that no assistance was required.
The crew of the motor tanker were able to restore both propulsion and steering, and there were no casualties reported, according to the statement.
U.S. Central Command said, "This continued malign and reckless behavior by the Iranian-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of mariners across the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden'.
