Hazardous Cargo Incident at Puerto Nuevo Terminals, San Juan, Puerto Rico

PUERTO RICO — On March 26, 2025, a Coast Guard Sector San Juan inspections team identified a hazardous cargo shipment containing Anhydrous Ammonia at the Puerto Nuevo Terminals (PNT) port facility in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This finding was documented during a routine inspection conducted by three Coast Guard Marine Science Technicians. The shipment included three tank-containers, one of which held over 5,000 gallons of Anhydrous Ammonia, a substance classified as hazardous due to its toxic, corrosive, and flammable properties. The discovery prompted an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard, with additional support from multiple federal agencies.
