Democratic Republic of the Congo Travel Advisory Updated: Level 4 Do Not Travel. Increased Violence In Kinshasa, Shelter In Place Advisory
The overall Travel Advisory is Level 4: Do not travel to the DRC due to Armed Conflict, Crime, Civil Unrest, Kidnapping, and Terrorism.
State Department/Travel: Democratic Republic of the Congo: The Travel Advisory has been updated to reflect the Ordered Departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and eligible family members.
The overall Travel Advisory is Level 4: Do not travel to the DRC due to Armed Conflict, Crime, Civil Unrest, Kidnapping, and Terrorism.
DRC: Due to an increase in violence throughout the city of Kinshasa, the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa advises U.S. citizens to shelter in place and then safely depart while commercial options are available. N’Djili airport in Kinshasa remains open to commercial flights. We encourage U.S. citizens to depart via commercial flights when they feel like they can safely go to the airport.
There may be roadblocks and protests on the road to the airport which could impact travel time and security. The Embassy advises U.S. citizens in the DRC to review your personal security plans, ensure that your travel documents are up-to-date, and essential items are packed in bags that you can easily carry.
