Chinese-Backed Salt Typhoon Botnet Attacks Critical US Infrastructure, Volt Typhoon Adapts, Resurfaces Globally
Volt Typhoon, which embedded itself into end-of-life routers and critical infrastructure for at least five years has resurfaced globally and adapted after being disrupted by the US Government.
CYBER - The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have released a statement confirming that a Chinese government-backed hacker group called "Salt Typhoon" targeted and successfully hacked multiple telecommunications companies, stealing call record data of "a limited number of individuals who are primarily involved in government or political activity".
Furthermore, the hackers copied information that the joint statement said "was subject to U.S. law enforcement requests pursuant to court orders," adding, "We expect our understanding of these compromises to grow as the investigation continues".
