Chinese Aircraft Violates Japanese Airspace
A Chinese Y-9 reconnaissance aircraft violated Japanese airspace near the Danjo Islands off the Nagasaki Prefecture on Monday.
TOKYO - The Japanese Ministry of Defense has reported that a Chinese Y-9 intelligence-gathering aircraft entered Japanese Airspace near the Danjo Islands off the Nagasaki Prefecture for about two minutes at around 11:29 am on Monday to 11:31 am.
Japan's Self-Defense Force scrambled fighter jets in response to the airspace intrusion, which a Japanese official says is "utterly unacceptable".
15 Chinese military aircraft, 7 PLA Navy (PLAN) vessels and 3 official ships operating around Taiwan were also spotted today by Taipei’s MOD.
9 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the island's northern, central, southwestern and eastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
Taiwan also monitored a Chinese satellite carrier rocket launch that passed over the island's ADIZ and headed toward the West Pacific, according to the Ministry.
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said that the violation into Japanese airspace was "not only a serious violation of Japan's sovereignty but it also threatens our security".
The Chinese aircraft kept circling near the Danjo islands after leaving Japanese airspace.
Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Masataka Okano summoned a senior official from the Chinese Embassy in response to the violation in order to protest against the incident.
