DOD: "Carrier strike group is in addition to the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, which is currently operating in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. It will further increase our force posture".

US Central Command: "The reports of alleged U.S. service member deaths earlier today in Iraq are not true." The Department of Defense is sending the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group currently operating in the eastern Mediterranean after several attacks on American military bases in both Syria and Iraq.
