CENTCOM Commander Visits Lebanon; Israeli Military Strikes Syrian Weapons Sites; Watchdog to Address Unaccounted Chemical Weapons in Syria
The OPCW has voiced serious concerns about the completeness of Syria's initial declaration of its chemical weapons program, and the "fate of significant amounts of chemical weapons" in the country.
MIDDLE EAST - Commander of U.S. Central Command Gen. Michael Kurilla traveled to Beirut, Lebanon and met with the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Co-chair of the implementation and monitoring mechanism for the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon.
They discussed ongoing efforts to advance a lasting cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon via the mechanism. "This is an important first step in the implementation of a lasting cessation of hostilities and lays the foundation for continued progress,” Kurilla stated.
