American-Turkish Citizen Killed During Protest In West Bank
US Ambassador to Israel: We are aware of the tragic death of an American citizen, Aysenur Eygi, today in the West Bank.
ISRAEL - 26-year-old American-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was killed during protests in the West Bank. Other activists at the protest, as well as the Palestinian Authority-run news agency Wafa reported that the woman was shot in the head by the Israeli military, after which she was transported to the Rafida Hospital in Nablus where she died.
Wafa reported that the Israeli military used live rounds, stun grenades and tear gas in order to disperse the protest in Beita, in the West Bank when the woman was shot, and an 18-year-old Palestinian caught shrapnel in the leg.
The Israeli military released a statement on the incident and said that it had responded with shots toward the main instigator of violent activity and that rocks were being hurled.
Fouad Nafaa, who is the head of the Rafidia hospital spoke to Reuters and said it had admitted a woman who had a serious critical head injury.
Nafaa said of the woman that was admitted to the hospital, "We tried to perform a resuscitation operation on her, but unfortunately, she died".
