6.7 to 6.8 Earthquake Strikes Off South Island, New Zealand. Tsunami Advisory Cancelled
A tsunami advisory has been reported as a result of the earthquake
NEW ZEALAND - An earthquake between the magnitude of 6.7 and 7.0 (depending on government reporting monitors used) struck just off the west coast of South Island, New Zealand. USGS says 6.8 magnitude (has now downgraded to 6.7), the New Zealand monitor downgraded to 6.8. A tsunami advisory has now been placed.
No tsunami warning has been reported as a result of the earthquake, though the New Zealand Tsunami Monitoring And Detection Network says, "The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and scientific advisors are still assessing whether there is a threat to New Zealand from the Southland earthquake."
