According to the Chinese military, the country’s Liaoning and Shandong aircraft carriers carried out a dual aircraft carrier formation exercise for the first time in the South China Sea.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense also said yesterday that the country's military had been carrying out its annual brigade confrontation exercise when Typhoon Kong-rey hit the island, at which point it transitioned to disaster response.
