3 Deaths, At Least 4 Injured During Missile Attack From Houthi-Controlled Parts Of Yemen

The Iranian-backed Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack saying that they had issued a warning to the vessel to leave the area.

YEMEN - U.S. Central Command: Three people were killed and at least four injured during a missile attack from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen targeting the Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned bulk carrier "True Confidence" that was transiting the Gulf of Aden.

The Iranian-backed Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack saying that they had issued a warning to the vessel to leave the area. 

The Houthis added that vessels in the region should “respond to the calls of the Yemeni naval forces and all crews of the targeted ships must quickly depart after the first strike". 

The Houthis also said their attacks “will continue to fulfill their religious, moral and humanitarian duties in assisting the oppressed Palestinian people".

“Their operations in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea will not stop until the aggression ceases and the siege on the Palestinian people in [the] Gaza Strip is lifted," the group added. 

The British Embassy in Yemen has announced that at least two sailors died as a result of an attack in the region and said that the deaths were due to "the sad and predictable result of the Houthis’ reckless missile launches on international shipping". 

The embassy said, "They must stop" and added, “Our deepest condolences are with the families of those who died and those who were injured.”
